ZuNE NaNo

Today, we are taking a look at Microsoft ZUNE just to have a initial impression of the device. We are looking at the 4 & 8 gigabyte versions. While many have criticized the original Zune (and to some extent, the Zune 80 GB) for its bulkiness, the 4GB and 8GB models are narrow,sleek and thin.. not sleek exactly!! Still, no one would dare to complain about their sizes compared to the iPod nano, especially not when the Zune also includes a larger screen(1.8 inch glass LCD) than the first two iPod nano models.Microsoft's decision to use a glass covered LCD instead of plastic worked, as the screen is scratch resistant and gives a sophisticated feel.

You can also call it zune NANO. Infact, Zune really resembles 2nd generation iPod nano in size. Smaller Zune gives you almost all the feature you would find in higher capacity 80 gb. It is a flash memory based player with FM radio. It has a really great main menu screen with large fonts which makes it crystal clear even from a distance. The big deal for the latest ZUne is, innovative support for podcast(audio n video both). Another big thing,that I liked about it is the ability to do wireless syncing with your home computer. I think microsoft has done a remarkable job by including this feature in its new range of ZUNE.

Using the Zune also means using the Zune's PC-only software. Infact, the device is 'locked' until attached to a PC running ZUNE software. Zune software has clean and bright interface. Fans of Windows Media Player will definitely need some time to adjust to the new file and category organization, but I believe the new system is much better.It is less fexible than Itunes(smart playlists are not possible).




The player doesnt support older WMA-DRM9 music files. A main feature which has been removed is EQUALIZER. The attention getting Zune PAD controller also works well. With the Zune Pad, users can navigate menus by either pressing or sliding their finger in four directions and select items by clicking the middle of the pad.... Now this thing is kool!! Everyone wants to have a good grip n control over their mp3 player. Having such an awesome navigation pad lets you browse through your music very easily.

Microsoft has priced the product to make it affordable for most customers. Another reason is to give its rival( APPLE) a tough competition. The 4 gigabyte version costs 149 dollars and 8 gigabyte 199 dollars.
So if you are not already tied to an Ipod or thinking about making a switch, the new 4 & 8 gb ZUNE is a great alternative. Audio and video podcast, wireless syncing, good batterylife, wide range of format support, thin design with awesome navigation controller.. .. A LoT of KoOl FeaTurEs!

While the full-size Zune is a better value, the flash memory used in the 4GB and 8GB versions make them better suited for physically active or sporty users
